Ruby Love Designs

I've been looking for a pregnancy scrapbook and/or baby book but haven't been impressed with the ones I've seen at Target and Babies R Us. Someone on one of the local chat boards I frequent, recommended Ruby Love Designs, a shop on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7096413

I bookmarked her shop until we knew what we were having and ordered this book:

The book arrived within 2 business days of ordering it and I love it. It's so cute and modern. There are only a few pages devoted to pregnancy and the rest are about the baby's first year. They supplied some extra blank pages which I will be using in the pregnancy section to put in ultrasound photos, emails we sent out after appointments, blog entries, etc. If you are ever in the market for a book like this for yourself or someone you know, I highly recommend this shop.

Already Spoiled

My mom bought her grandson a couple gifts while she was in Long Beach visiting my sister and her family.

She went to a store called "Meggie Lou, and brothers too!" and got him a very soft blankie...

and the cutest little outfit. The pants have little stripes on them, and the matching top has a little sailboat on it. This is going to be perfect for next summer!

Something tells me this little guy is going to be very spoiled!

Pregnancy Quiz

How far along? 22 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: I had an appointment today and the dr. said something to the effect of "you might want to start watching your weight gain." I had two big weight gains in a row. :(

Maternity clothes? I'm pretty much only wearing maternity clothes. I got another pair of jean capris, a black tank and black work pants last week at motherhood maternity.

Stretch marks? Not yet.

Sleep: I usually wake up every time I need to roll over. I've woken up a couple times and I can feel my calves about to cramp up. I need to eat bananas.

Best moment this week: Hearing the heart beat today.

Movement: He is very active now. I feel him move throughout the day.

Food cravings: I don't have a ton of food cravings.

Gender: Boy

Labor Signs: Nope

Belly Button in or out? In

What I miss: Going into a store and not having to search for something cute. Maternity clothes aren't the hippest things out there.

What I am looking forward to: Our 3D/4D ultrasound in October.

Milestones: We registered today - we both took the day off and went after the dr.'s appointment. It took us about 3 hours - it was pretty fun for the most part but we are both worn out. To any mom to be: get Baby Bargains! Very helpful.

Baby Wagner is the size of a Spaghetti Squash.

Reason #28 for Hiring a Pool Boy:

When you wake up to find your spa almost out of water...

...it's not your problem.

Today we had Jeff Bodin of Krystal Water Pools come over to save our spa. He offers pretty good prices for weekly up keep so Rob hired him on the spot. Rob's been doing a good job, but I think after a year, he was ready to pass the torch (one I wasn't ready to carry).

R.I.P pool boy #1.

We also passed the gardening torch to Rigo (I call him Rigo Suave). He's been doing a great job at keeping our yard looking neat and tidy. I'm not sure what Rob will be doing with all his free time. If you have suggestions, leave a comment for him.

Oahu 2009

Rob and I went to Hawaii last Friday with his parents (Lou and Corinne) and returned Wed at 3:00 am - more on that later.

When we landed in Hawaii, our driver picked us up in this:

We had no idea she would be picking us up in a stretch limo - we rolled up to the Halekulani in style.

Rollin' large in the limo:

The next day, Lou and Rob went to a Fort that was right by the hotel. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of it. While they did that, Corinne and I did a little shopping. We were looking for something different than what we have back home for children's clothing or maternity clothes but we were out of luck. At the very end of our outing, we saw a Ralph Lauren store and decided to go in. They were having a really big end of year sale and Corinne got our little man a couple outfits.

We met up with Rob and Lou for lunch then headed next door to the Royal Hawaiian for a tour of the hotel. It had just re-opened after a big renovation (I think they said they spent $100 million). Befores the hotel inside and out had pink everything. The daughter of someone (owner?) loved pink so they made everything pink. Now they have pink sprinkled throughout but its not overwhelmingly pink. I really liked how they did it.

That night we went to one of Obama's favorite restaurants: Alan Wong's.

Dessert - Before

Dessert - After (Lou)

Dessert - After (mine)

Sunday Rob and Lou got private tours by a retired military person. I know, I'm bad with details. Basically someone who had access to stuff civilians don't, gave Rob and Lou a tour. Meanwhile Corinne and I went to the Kahala resort where Kathy and Michael got married last year. We checked out the rooms (very nice) and had lunch.

After lunch, we waited for the men to get back and went on an outing with them. We went to the area Obama vacations, saw Obama's grandma's old apartment building, saw the Baskin Robbins Obama used to work at (I used to work there too...I think that says a lot about me don't you think? I mean, I have the same job on my resume that the president does!), and went to have shaved ice at Obama's favorite spot. It was the first time my mother in law had shaved ice and she liked it a lot.

That night we ate at Michel's which is a place Rob and I ate at last year which was recommended by Lou and Corinne.

On Monday, the men did more Pearl Harbor stuff while I got a massage. When they got back, we went back to Ralph Lauren to do a little more damage. That night Rob and I decided to do our own thing for dinner and had room service. I had a club sandwich, fries and a toberlone mousse cake. Rob had sliders, crab salad sandwich, fries and coconut cake. We are large children.

We left Oahu on Tuesday but had a little mishap at the airport. We loaded the plane on time but once we were all settled on the plane, they told us they had to replace a part. After an hour and a half, the part was fixed but the flight crew was gone. They asked us to get our carryons and de-board the plane. We re-boarded two hours later. We didn't get home until 3:00 am. In the end they gave everyone $250 flight vouchers which was nice. All in all it was a good trip - thank you Wagners for a great vacation!

Belly Shot

This might be the one and only time I'll post a picture of my belly so enjoy it or cringe while you can.

Here is a picture a couple days after finding out we were pregnant. I have never been a skinny minny, but I was in pretty good shape with working out with my trainer and attending Zumba classes at my gym.

Then:

Now at 21 weeks**:

**sucking it in just a tad...

Beauty Rave: L'Oreal Double Extend Mascara

I've always used non-department store mascaras, they just seemed to work best for me. I started using Cover Girl mascara when I was 12 for two reasons: my mom used it, and I thought the pink and green tube was pretty. I kept using it because that stuff really worked! It stayed on for a long time, wasn't clumpy and didn't leave black flakes on your face throughout the day.

Fast forward about 17 years..I was getting bored. I had no reason to change mascaras because it was still working great, but I wanted to try something new. I started wiht the Lash Blast because I thought Drew's lashes (you know, my homegirl Drew Barrymore), looked great in the ad. I used it and really liked it but it was hard to get used to the size of the brush. It must have been four times the size of my Cover Girl brush. I used that kind for about 4 months when Oprah (we're on a first name basis), recommended a new mascara in her magazine by L'Oreal.

This new mascara was a tubing mascara. Huh? It was the first non-department store tubing mascara out there. I guess one other brand had their own tubing mascara - I think it might have been Chanel but not sure. Anyway, what the heck is tubing? Basically, it's a 2 step process. The first step is to apply this white mascara on your lashes, then immediately follow with the colored mascara (black, brown etc.). It claims to lengthen your lashes up to 80%. What got me interested was the process of putting the white mascara on first then the black because I have noticed that if my lashes are still wet from my shower, my mascara works so much better than if my lashes had dried. The white step of the process could get my lashes wet before applying the real stuff.

So I went out to Target and got me a tube of tubing mascara and LOVED it. I loved it for all the reasons I loved Cover Girl: easy to apply, didn't flake or smudge but it also made my lashes really long and its so easy to take off. You don't even need eye make up remover, just warm water and the tubes come straight off. It's kind of scary at first because when you take it off, it looks like your lashes are falling out - because the mascara is still in the shape of each of your lashes.

My gym trainer actually noticed - he said my eyes looked really blue or they were more pronounced than they normally were. Then my manager noticed. She said "Theens! Your lashes are so long!" Side note: yes, my manager calls me Theens. Years ago we joked around about how people couldn't pronounce my name. They would call me Alisha, Alicia, Alison, etc. So she decided to call me Athena, which turned into the nickname Theens and Theener. Ok, back to mascara! So I told her about my mascara and I happened to have it in my purse. My director level, highly professional manager sat in her office with me, applying my mascara. She loved it so much she went out and got a tube herself, and got her friend hooked on it. To this day she often comments on my tubes, "your tubes look nice today, Theens!" she'll say to me.

About a week later, our employment lawyer passed me in the hallway with a tube of mascara and said "I have to try this stuff out!" I don't even need to tell you how smart this lady is: she is a lawyer! All I'm saying is this stuff works, and people notice. Your husband may not notice, even when you ask him but that's ok. Love you Rob!

I will say to refrain from doing Step 1 on your lower lashes. You will just look like a goth freak. Step 2 is totally acceptable, however.

I took a break from Step 1 of tubing during my first trimester. I honestly thought spending the extra 30 seconds putting on the white (crucial) part onto my lashes was just too much effort. Now that I have my energy back, I'm back to my tubing ways!
