Did You Notice?

About a week ago, I added a baby ticker at the bottom of my blog. All you google reader people will have to go to my blog to check it out. It isn't anything special, but it will tell you exactly how far along I am, and what is going on with with our little man. Enjoy!

Clumsiness

I've heard you become more clumsy when you are pregnant and I'm having one of those days. Before I told work I was pregnant, I accidentally spilled my co-workers coffee all over her desk. I wanted to tell her "I'm sorry - I'm clumsy because I'm pregnant!" but I couldn't tell her yet. I'm happy I can now use my excuse!

My clumsiness started today in my work's parking lot. I dropped my iced decaf latte and the cup broke. I left a nice latte puddle on the parking lot for someone to step in. I'm sure they will appreciate that. Then when I was in the office, I somehow made half of my uncooked oatmeal and water mixture spill onto the floor by the microwave. And finally, around 11:00, I spilled my hot chocolate on my desk and keyboard.

The one good thing that got out of the latest spill was a brand new keyboard from my IT department. I think next time I'll spill something on my laptop.....

Unwelcome House Guest

I took Buddy out to go potty last night and saw a really big spider crawling up on its web into the bottom of our little bench we have by our front door. I took a closer look and realized we had a black widow on our hands.

I think it was the first time I've ever seen one in person. I knew it was a black widow because of its big black booty and red hourglass spot. I took Buddy inside and took him back outside through our garage so we wouldn't have to get near that thing. The next day, during the daytime, the spider was gone but tonight, he was back under our bench. Warning: you might not want to sit on this bench!

Rob called some pest control people who will start spraying our house on a regular basis starting Friday. Wish they would come sooner!!

Team Testes!

We're having a BOY!

Rob and I had a dr.'s appointment today and the ultra sound tech was 98% sure it was a boy. He also pointed out the goods to us. He took a ton of pictures to show our dr. and make sure everything looks good and it did. I of course lost the pictures. I think they are either sitting on a chair in the waiting room, or in my dr.'s office. They are estimating he weighs 9 oz.

After the ultrasound, Rob and I had to wait for my dr. to meet with us. Rob wouldn't sit down, he was too excited. Here is Rob doing his happy dance:

After the appointment, we headed to The Original Pancake House for lunch. We chatted between texting and phoning our friends..

..and drinking hot cocoa..

When I got home, I told Buddy he was going to have a little brother. This was his reaction (he's a little skeptical):

Now that I know it's a boy, I don't have to return something I bought a few months ago. If we had a boy, I knew I wanted to have a nautical themed nursery. I was at Home Goods and spotted this anchor. I know it's random, but I loved it.

Next on our agenda: picking a name!

Small Town News

Found this gem on my town's newspaper's website. I bolded my favorite part.

Suspicious person

An employee at Safeway Grocery Store at 235 Tennant Station Way reported a man in his 40s comes to the store every day and buys large amounts of soap. The man purchased two 24-packs of Dove white bar soap Monday, and the employee said the customer is not clean. The incident was reported 11:44 a.m. Monday.

Flutter?

I've heard the first movements, called Quickening, can be described as "flutters", "feeling of butterfly wings" and "bubbles." I had a couple feelings like this yesterday but it was only at the time that I was starving so it might have just been my stomach growling. I guess its easier to feel the movement when you are still so at night I try to see if I can feel something when lying in bed but I'm usually asleep in a couple minutes. So I'm not absolutely sure, but I might have felt the first movements yesterday.

Maternity Clothes

I broke down and bought my first maternity wear item: jean capris. They are a tad big because they didn't have my size but I can grow into them. I'm doing ok on work clothes because I can hike my skirt up enough to be comfy, but still have the skirt hit right at or below the knee. I feel like urkel, but it works. For now.

On the weekends I live in sweatpants or this skirt:

I also bought two more skirts similar to this one - one in black and one in gray. I'm fine with purchasing maternity clothes but I feel like it's too soon that I SHOULDN'T be buying them. I think my sister said she didn't buy maternity clothes until the 20-22 week mark. I'm 17 weeks. I know everyone is different but it's hard to tell if this extra padding is bloat, the baby or a side effect of taco bell double deckers and very little working out. I'm looking forward to getting out of this in between stage and having a full on belly!

Baby Wagner is about 5 inches long and the size of a turnip.

Baby Update

Rob and I had a dr.'s appointment on Wednesday and it went well.

My blood work all came back good (immune to German measles, thyroid was good, iron levels were good, etc.). Odds of baby having Downs is 1 in 10,000 (she said this was good). She measured my uterus/tummy and said "you're definitely growing." I asked her if there was any way I'm carrying twins and she said no. :) We heard the heartbeat again and the dr. said the baby was moving around a lot. I'm up 3lbs since the last appointment, 5 total. They said that was normal. I might not share weight info later if I'm gaining a lot. :)

I also found out it's ok to indulge in hollandaise sauce every once in a while. I LOVE eggs benedict but heard the sauce has raw eggs in it and you should avoid it when pregnant. I actually haven't had it since I was about 4 weeks along but something tells me I'll be having it more often. I get together with friends once a month for breakfast, and now Rob and I go to breakfast after each appointment. I'll definately be having at eggs benedict least once a month.

We'll be back to the dr.'s in 2.5 weeks to find out the gender!

This week, baby is the size of an apple.

4th of July 2009 - Grand Lake, CO

We just got back from spending four nights at my parents cabin in Grand Lake to celebrate the 4th of July and my dad's 70th birthday.

On Friday, we rented a pontoon boat for four hours. Due to rain, a hot chocolate break and pregger potty breaks, we were only on the boat for about two hours.

Rob wasn't able to contain his excitement.

After we had lunch on the boat, it started to rain.

That night we went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant in downtown Grand Lake. On both the ride to and from the restaurant, we saw a Moose. The second one was even bigger than the first. This was the only time everyone's camera was at home. My mom snapped a couple pictures on her cell phone. If Rob had had 1 more Captain Morgan and Diet Coke, he may have gotten out of the car and touched the moose (Jim said he wouldn't drive the car any further if Rob didn't get out and touch the moose).

On Saturday, the community my parent's house is in had a parade. I think we could have been in the parade if we wanted to.

Rob was super impressed.

After the five minute parade, we headed over to the community 4th of July potluck. We left after it started to rain - sense a theme here? After the festivities, Rob and I went with Jim and Ashley to the Grand Lake Brewery so Jim could get his "Plaid Bastard" beer. We ended up not going to the fireworks show because they didn't start until 10:00 pm and they were shooting them off at Grand Lake, not the lake my parent's house is on. Apparently they had somewhere around 40-60K people last year and we didn't want to deal with the crowd (I can't remember the exact figure, but it was somewhere around there). We were able to see some fireworks from their porch but most of us were in bed soon after they started.

On Sunday, the boys went golfing and the girls stayed home. Ashley, Gracie and I decided to get some fresh air and took a walk outside.

Once the guys got back, the girls were off to get massages!

That night we went to the Sagebrush BBQ restaurant in downtown Grand Lake for dinner.

And this morning, we were headed back to California! Here is a picture of lovely Emily on the plane. I love her smiles.

Not Taking Offense.

I had a flashback today of a conversation I had once with someone who used to work at my company years ago. She was pregnant at the time was telling me you "look different" when you are pregnant depending on if you are having a boy or a girl. I've heard that you can carry the baby differently based on the gender but I haven't heard that the mom looks differently.

She said if you are having a girl, you will look pretty much the same as you do now but if you are having a boy, you will look ugly. Yes, that's what she said. She said your face changes and you don't look like yourself. I wondered if you could look different - but better. Her answer was "no, you don't look better."

Whenever anyone told her they thought she was having a boy, she would take offense. She said "never tell anyone that they are having a boy!"

I've been told more often that people think I'm having a boy than a girl but don't worry, my feelings aren't hurt.

Has anyone else heard of this before?
